Supporting Agri-Business and Agriculture in Ghana

GIRSAL is a non-bank financial Institution incorporated as a private company in Ghana. Our objective is to de-risk agricultural financing by the financial institutions, by issuing agricultural credit guarantee instruments - to enhance the total amount of credit to the agricultural and agribusiness sectors.

GIRSAL's principal shareholder is the Ministry of Finance, and has seed funding from the Bank of Ghana and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

How We Operate

GIRSAL works with participating financial institutions and intermediaries to strengthen their institutional capacity to support new lending to agri-businesses in the selected value chains.

GIRSAL applies a 6-pillar approach to mitigate unique risks of agricultural finance including both supply-side and demand-side intervention. These 6 pillars come under two Components. (i) De-risking Instruments and (ii) Incentives and Enablers

Agricultural Value Chains We Support

GIRSAL supports financial institutions' lending to producers, processors, marketers, and other related services such as input providers within selected agricultural value chains.

We also facilitate technical support to farmer groups and agri-business in theses value chains, to build their capacity, and prepare them to access loan facilities.
