Ghana’s agricultural sector is characterized by challenges limiting its potential, which requires continuous efforts to improve the sector.
GIRSAL has designed an Agriculture Stakeholder Convening Platform dubbed “Agribusiness Public-Private Partnership Platform.” It is part of efforts to help resolve agricultural challenges and provide sustainable solutions.
The Agribusiness Public-Private Partnership Platform is developed to hold sustainable dialogue among all stakeholders, address the sector’s bottlenecks, ensure institutional enforcement of standards and regulations, and affect changes in the incoherent policies and multiplication of efforts impacting the productivity and sector competitiveness.
The overall objective of the Agribusiness Public-Private Partnership platform is to provide a platform to engage government institutions and the private sector participants towards the identification and resolution of critical bottlenecks in agricultural finance and agribusiness space.
Part of GIRSAL’s 5-years strategic plan is to champion the transformation of agric sector to ensure growth. That is by prioritizing interventions toward selected agricultural value chains with import substitution and export potential.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of GIRSAL, Mr. Kwesi Korboe, government interventions over the years in the sector have achieved varied results. However, there is the need to do more for the sector through properly structured and impactful initiatives with key stakeholder involvement and buy-in to achieve sustainable outcomes.
This platform is expected to manifest in increased productivity, a thriving agribusiness environment, increased investment in the sector, improved terms of trade, and increased credit.
As part of the platform launch, GIRSAL will also relaunch as an institution to introduce itself to stakeholders as the foremost institution for all Agric-related interventions for the Agribusiness sector as well as a champion for agricultural transformation in Ghana.
