Head of Internal Audit and Compliance
Adaru Mohammed is the Head of Internal Audit at GIRSAL, where he provides strategic leadership for the organization’s internal audit function, governance assurance framework, and risk-based audit programs. He oversees the development and execution of GIRSAL’s internal audit strategy, ensuring the effectiveness of internal controls across credit guarantee operations, corporate processes, and technical support functions.
He is a distinguished internal audit and financial governance professional with over seventeen years of experience spanning financial services delivery, risk management, treasury operations, agribusiness finance, and organizational performance assurance. His work at GIRSAL has contributed significantly to strengthening institutional accountability, improving internal efficiencies, and reinforcing the governance structures required to support the organization’s national mandate of expanding access to agricultural finance.
Prior to joining GIRSAL, Adaru held senior positions within the financial services sector, including Internal Audit Manager at ASA Savings and Loans and Progress Savings and Loans. In these roles, his advisory interventions delivered substantial cost savings, mitigated regulatory and cybersecurity risks, and safeguarded multi-million-cedi investment exposures. He also spent nearly a decade at Okomfo Anokye Rural Bank, where he held progressively senior roles including Head of Internal Audit, Finance Manager, Assistant Internal Auditor, and Banking Operations Officer, gaining extensive experience in regulatory compliance, financial reporting, risk management, and operational leadership.
Adaru holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance, a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and a Professional Diploma in Information Technology with a specialization in Database Administration, SQL, and Oracle. He is a Chartered Accountant and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), a graduate of the Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa (ATSWA), and a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). He also brings strong competencies in data analytics, internal control systems, cybersecurity evaluations, credit risk assessment, and corporate governance.
