Chief Risk Officer

Ernest Tagbotor is the Chief Risk Officer at GIRSAL, where he provides strategic oversight for the organisation’s risk management function. He supports the evaluation of Credit Risk Guarantee requests submitted by Participating Financial Institutions by conducting due diligence and ensuring that all material credit risk issues are thoroughly assessed and presented to the Board to support informed decision-making.

He is a seasoned risk management, banking, and agribusiness finance professional with over twenty years of experience across credit risk assessment, portfolio monitoring, and financial services delivery. His work focuses on strengthening risk governance, enhancing credit risk evaluation processes, and supporting the sustainability of GIRSAL’s credit guarantee operations.

At GIRSAL, Ernest also oversees the monitoring of guaranteed agribusiness facilities to identify emerging risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies that protect portfolio quality and institutional performance.

Prior to joining GIRSAL, Ernest held various roles at CalBank Plc and GTBank Ghana, where he gained extensive experience in corporate and SME banking, business development, and credit management. He also served as Branch Manager at Donewell Insurance Company Limited, Ghana, where he led business development initiatives, implemented marketing strategies, and promoted customer-focused service delivery.

Ernest holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from Coventry University, United Kingdom, a Bachelor of Science degree in Management with Computing from Regent University College of Science and Technology, and a Higher National Diploma in Statistics from Ho Technical University.
